YMH manufactures a variety of muzzle brakes and compensator/muzzle brake combos for AR-15s, AR-10s, and other rifles. Our muzzle brakes are compatible with various calibers including 556, 30 cal, 9mm, & 7.62x39mm, and thread pitches including 5/8x24, 1/2x28, & 1/2x36. Shop our selection below!
We also carry Phantom and sRx Q.D. muzzle brakes to efficiently mate your suppressor system or blast deflector to!
More about our muzzle brakes
Q.D. Muzzle Brakes
YHM manufactures a variety of QD muzzle brakes for suppressors including our sRx™ and Phantom models.
These brakes can be used with a suppressor or other mounting accessory or as a standalone muzzle brake for excellent recoil control. All Q.D. muzzle brakes are matched to the caliber and precisely manufactured for easy installation every time.
Low Profile Muzzle Brake
Our low-profile muzzle brake was designed to enable you to swap out parts without having to remove the muzzle brake and works great with 14.5” barrels. This is especially useful for those who pin and weld the muzzle brake to the end of their barrel, and want the ability to swap out their 0.75” ID gas block, barrel nut, handguards, or upper receiver.
Compensator Muzzle Brake Combos
Our compensator/muzzle brake hybrids are designed to limit recoil and muzzle movement for improved follow-up shots. We carry 5.56 caliber, 6.8mm, and .30 caliber muzzle brake compensator combos. We also carry a Phantom 5.56 muzzle brake/comp with aggressive and smooth end cuts.
Muzzle Brake Blast Deflector
YHM blast deflectors (also referred to as blast diverters or blast shields) reduce noise redirected toward the shooter from the muzzle brake. We offer two different models.
The 5.56/.30 cal blast deflector is designed to work with multiple YHM Q.D. muzzle brakes, mounts just like a suppressor, and is made of 4140 Chrome Moly steel with a Melonite QPQ finish.
Our Adaptable Blast Deflector is designed to fit YHM Phantom adapters and other mounts. It is a two-piece blast shield, made with 17-4PH Stainless Steel and Melonite QPQ finish.
Muzzle Brake FAQs
What is the purpose of a muzzle brake?
Muzzle brakes are used to limit recoil, improving muzzle stability and control.
How do muzzle brakes work?
Muzzle brakes have ports designed to redirect gasses leaving the barrel to the sides and backward to counter recoil from the backward force of the firearm. There are muzzle brakes designed to redirect gasses outward and backward and act as a compensator/muzzle brake. These devices help with recoil and muzzle rise.
What is the downside of a muzzle brake?
With muzzle brakes redirecting gasses sideways and/or backward, it can make the firearm more audible if you are beside or behind the firearm.
Do muzzle brakes make guns louder?
Muzzle brakes do not make the firearm louder. They redirect the noise sideways and behind the firearm instead of down range, so it can seem louder depending on where you are standing.
Do muzzle brakes increase accuracy?
Muzzle brakes do not directly impact accuracy, especially with the first shot. It does help accuracy and overall experience when cycling shots because of the reduced recoil and improved muzzle control.
What is “timing” a muzzle brake?
Timing a muzzle brake refers to the alignment and positioning when it is installed. This ensures the ports are redirecting gasses in the intended directions and working as designed to limit recoil. If they are not timed correctly, it can result in ineffective recoil reduction and performance issues.
Do you need a crush washer for a flash hider?
Typically, a crush washer is needed for the installation of a muzzle brake and it will ship with the device. Alternatively, with Q.D. muzzle brakes crush washers are not used. Please refer to manufacturer installation instructions for whatever muzzle device you are installing.
Should I get a muzzle brake or flash hider?
Each muzzle device has its intended use, and the best one depends on the needed application. If you need to reduce recoil, muzzle brakes are the superior choice. If you would like to limit muzzle flash, flash hiders are a great option (along with sound suppressors).
Should I get a compensator or muzzle brake?
It depends on the desired outcome. A compensator and muzzle brake are similar in that they help with recoil and muzzle control. Compensators are typically designed to redirect gasses upward to limit muzzle rise and muzzle brakes are typically designed to redirect gasses backward to limit recoil. All compensators and muzzle brakes are designed differently, so it is best to know their capabilities before purchasing.
How do I pick the right muzzle brake?
You need to consider three things:
Will the muzzle brake fit the needed application? There are different muzzle brakes and muzzle brake/compensator combos that manage recoil and muzzle movement differently. Pick the device based on whether you need recoil control, or recoil control and muzzle rise control.
You will also consider whether you need a standard muzzle brake or Q.D. muzzle brake so you can install other accessories like a blast deflector or suppressor.
Is it compatible with your firearm? The muzzle brake needs to have the correct thread count, and ability to pass ammunition it was designed for.
Does caliber matter for muzzle brakes?
Yes, buying your muzzle brake based on the caliber is required. The bore size, amount of high-pressure gas, and bullet velocity vary depending on the caliber. Ports on the muzzle brake are designed to redirect those gasses based on the caliber to provide optimal benefits while running that muzzle device.
Are muzzle brakes legal?
In most jurisdictions muzzle brakes are legal, but vary. Please refer to the laws and regulations in your area to determine if they are legal.
