About our AR-15 flash hiders
YHM Phantom Flash Hiders
We manufacture a variety of flash hiders based on our tried and true Phantom platform. We have been making these flash hiders for decades, and continue to use the 5 port design that has no downward facing port. This helps eliminate dust problems when shooting in the prone position.
Q.D. Flash Hiders
YHM manufactures QD flash hiders including our sRx™ and Phantom models. Yankee Hill Machine flash hiders are highly effective, often reduce muzzle flash by 99%, and enable you to efficiently install your suppressor by hand. They’re available in a variety of bore sizes and thread mounts to fit almost any application.
Low Profile Flash Hider
Our low-profile flash hider was designed to enable you to swap out parts without having to remove the flash hider, and works great with 14.5” barrels. This is especially useful for those who pin and weld the flash hider to the end of their barrel, and want the ability to swap out their .75” ID gas block, barrel nut, handguards or upper receiver.
Compensator Flash Hider Combos
Our compensator/flash hider hybrids are some of our longest standing and most well known products. They reduce muzzle flash and muzzle movement. We carry 5.56 caliber and 7.62 caliber flash hider compensator combos with aggressive and smooth end cuts.
Flash Hider FAQs
What is the purpose of a flash hider?
Flash hiders (also referred to as flash suppressors or flash guards) are used to reduce the visible flash created when a round is fired and bright burning gasses are discharged from the rifle barrel.
How do flash hiders work?
Flash hiders reduce visible flash by diverting gasses as they leave the barrel of the rifle.
Why is muzzle flash bad?
Muzzle flash at night can momentarily affect the vision of the shooter. When your eyes are adjusted to low light the sudden flash can temporarily make it hard to see the surrounding environment, lock on to the target, and efficiently take follow up shots. Muzzle flash is a particularly troublesome problem if using night vision or low-light equipment.
Do you need a crush washer for a flash hider?
Typically, a crush washer is needed for the installation of a flash hider and it will ship with the flash hider. Alternatively, with Q.D. flash hiders crush washers are not used. Please refer to manufacturer installation instructions for whatever muzzle device you are installing.
Does a flash hider reduce recoil?
No, flash hiders do not reduce recoil. Muzzle brakes and comp/flash hider combos are muzzle devices designed to mitigate recoil and muzzle rise.
Are flash hiders better than compensators or muzzle brakes?
This depends on the desired outcome. If you want to reduce muzzle flash, flash hiders are the superior option. If you need a muzzle device that limits recoil and muzzle rise, compensators and muzzle brakes are the best option.
How do I install a flash hider?
Check out our instructional video on how to install a muzzle brake, the method is similar for installing flash hiders.
Are flash hiders legal?
In most jurisdictions flash hiders are legal, but vary. Please refer to the laws and regulations in your area to determine if flash hiders are legal.
Do I need a tax stamp for my flash hider?
Flash hiders are not regulated by the ATF, and do not require a tax stamp. Tax stamps are typically needed for suppressors, short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, or fully automatic weapons.
